In Fullness of the Word: An Anthology of Black American Poet Laureates
IIn 2021, I joined a group of Black Poet Laureates meeting on Facebook to share their experiences and learn from one another. Out of this rich gathering came the dream of putting together the first ever anthology of Black Poet Laureates. This anthology introduces you to state and city Poet Laureates from across the country, including Terry E. Carter, the inaugural Poet Laureate of Medford, MA. Each poet shares powerful and dynamic verse, while also highlighting their biography and a distinct connection to their city or state.
This rich collection of poetry highlights the literary achievements of 22 Poet Laureates. Published in April of this year (2023), it embraces the fullness of a cultural feast for the senses in meter, metaphor, rhyme, spirit and truth. Edited by Rhea Carmon, Poet Laureate of Knoxville, TN, with cover art by Henry L. Jones, a visual artist and Poet Laureate of Hendersonville, TN, it is a contemporary treasury of the Black Experience through the prism of poetry.
